History

The Modern Cafe has been a landmark in the downtown of Nanaimo since 1946 and is celebrating 65 years in succesful operation. Today, the truly Modern Cafe is the first restaurant to utilize Ipad technology on Vancouver Island to better service and communicate with customers.  Modern Cafe created an international style menu with many options available from our famous house-made Certified Angus Beef Burger to our Nanaimo Bar Martini.  With a fantastic brick wall interior, cozy booths, and famous Barton and Leier Gallery artwork the Modern Cafe has become a popular destination in the downtown of Nanaimo.   Many residents on Vancouver Island know us for our great Modern Cafe sign, and numerous have come down to photograph.  Modern Cafe also wants to create a technology advanced place of business, to better enhance and connect with customers in a meaningful and distinct way.  For the team at the Modern using Ipads and Squirrel Pos we can streamline operations, further improve our products, and create new points of connections with our customers.

The new owner of the Modern Cafe in Nanaimo, Scott Cooper, has an ambitious goal for the restaurant. The mission is to provide “an amazing dining experience at fair prices for every customer that enters the Modern Cafe.”

“It’s all about the details, from the paintings on our walls, to the coffee in your cup, we reviewed everything and make continous changes to further enhance our customers experience.” Scott Cooper is adamant in restoring and continuosly improving this culture and notes; “We make a great team, as we are all focused on the same thing, we want to wow everyone.”

The Modern Cafe also has it’s own brand of locally roasted fair trade and organic coffee, and recruited the finest Chefs to create a menu into a truly remarkable dining experience.  Recently acquiring CAB (Certified Angus Beef) certification on all steak products also shows the dedication to quality that we are well known for.  The Modern Cafe also has many gluten-free, vegan, and allergy free options, and can in most cases create a meal to best suit your specific needs.
